Welcome to the online Lasa Learning Environment (LLE). The LLE is made up of people and other resources we use to improve our Circuit Riding skills. It functions as an online platform for all of us, learners, advisors and the Lasa team who are part of the Circuit Riders Training and Certification Programme. It provides us with:

  • A personal journaling space
  • Organised resources related to specific competencies
  • A platform from which we can share with each other
  • A calendar and other tools we need

Below you will find the stream of information that we continue to share with each other. The left-hand column provides us with easy access to our own online notepads. The right-hand column offers you quick links to different types of content that are part of the LLE.

Euro tech conference report

The report of the conference held in September is now available to download (pdf 258Kb).

There are some useful report backs relevant to learners on the use and importance of cloud computing. I’d also recommend reading the transcription of Holly Ross’s Skype interview about how NTEN operate using the cloud.

We are hoping to engage soon with Holly and NTEN in some webinars based on their Managing Technology to Meet Your Mission book which is a key learning resource.

Trends and issues

I am currently working on module 1 competency 1, VCS trends and issues and would like to know more about how voluntary sector organisations are funded in relation raising money for ICT equipment and services. Can anyone help point me in the right direction?  I am fairly new to the sector having worked in the private sector for many years.

Thanks, Julie

My notes about staff turn over

There is a real issue with staff turn over in the voluntary sector, this impacts on the CR because building trust and skills in an organisation takes time and the staff take with knowledge/learning with them. Overall there is a long term benefit to the sector as gradually understanding of ICT can improve – however there is a step backwards in the short term where relationships and trust have to start from scratch.

Module 1 Issue; VCOs and the current economy

This post relates directly to the Module 1 Competency: Awareness of the basic challenges VCOs sometimes face which can have an affect on or be affected by ICT.

Hi everyone – Jo Bloggs, one of the learners I’m advising recently posted the following link in his personal learning journal. It is a great piece about the challenges VCOs are facing in this terrible economy. I found it at http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/08_40/b4102042668936.htm?chan=magazine+channel_news.

It reminded me of something I came across which addressed the same topic. You can find it here:http://www.nonprofitfinancefund.org/details.php?autoID=177

It is a guide to how nonprofits can navigate the financial crisis. I think in fact I’ll post this on the shared discussion space so everyone can see it.
